Polydore Vergilとは 意味・読み方・使い方

Polydore Vergil (or Virgil) (c. 1470 – 18 April 1555) was an Italian historian, otherwise known as PV Castellensis. He is better known as the contemporary historian during the early Tudor dynasty. He was hired by King Henry VIII of England, who wanted to distance himself from his father Henry VII as much as possible, to document both his and his father's lives. Naturally, the historical accuracy has come into question especially concerning Henry VII. However, his work is still seen as important as he was one of the few to have a degree of access to Henry VIII and so his work is still frequently used.
