発音
名詞
tropery (countable and uncountable, plural troperies)
- the usage of tropes (in a creative work, genre, style, etc.)
-
2004, Robert Sward, Bruce Meyer [Epilogue], “Epilogue”, in The collected poems of Robert Sward, 1957-2004, Black Moss Press, page 224:
-
Sward never met a trope he didn’t like. In the hands of a lesser artist, such a gift would be a disaster. The poem, however, concludes, “O name poor name, / will the rain care for you as I have cared for you? / Will the wind devour you, / knock your head against a tree? / Already I have forgotten.” Such poems are more than mere tropery. They go beyond the conceit.
-
語源 2
From Medieval Latin troparium, troperium (“book of tropes”), from tropus (“trope”) + -ārium (“-ary, -ery”).
名詞
tropery (plural troperies)
- Alternative spelling of tropary
-
1845, Thomas Faulkner, The history and antiquities of Brentford, Ealing, & Chiswick, interspersed with biographical notices of illustrious and eminent persons, London, Simpkin, Marshall, & co., Section on Cheswick, Chapter 2, page 297:
-
Among the archives of the dean and chapter of St. Paul's, are two inventories of the goods and ornaments belonging to the church of Chiswick. The first bears date 1252, and may be thus translated: A good and sufficient missal sent from the treasury of St. Paul's. A tropery, in good condition, except that it wants binding.
