• 汽船は風に逆らって走る
  A steamer can run against the wind―in the teeth of the wind―in the wind's eye.

• 人の意に逆らう
  to oppose one's will―act against one's wishes―act contrary to one's wishes
• 僕は自分の意に逆らって承諾した
  I consented against my will.
• 兄弟が無いから意に逆らう者が無かった
  Having no brothers or sisters, I had no one to oppose my will.
• お前は親の意に逆らう気か
  Do you mean to act against your parents' wishes?―act contrary to your parents' wishes?
