A stiletto is a knife or dagger with a long slender blade and needle-like point intended primarily as a stabbing weapon. Its narrow cross-section and acuminated tip reduces friction upon entry, allowing the blade to penetrate deeply. Most stilettos are not designed for cutting or slicing, even with edged examples. In American English usage, the name stiletto also refers to a switchblade knife with a stiletto-type blade design. The word may also be used as a general term for a variety of knife blades exhibiting a triangular cross-section and needle-like point, such as a Pesh kabz, Chura, or Khyber knife.
