toast rack (plural toast racks)

1. A rack designed to hold toasted bread, with a partition for each slice.
2. A type of bicycle stand consisting of several inverted "U"-shaped metal bars connected at ground level by two parallel rails.
3. (rail transport, usually informal) Any of several types of railway or tramway passenger vehicles with open sides and transverse benches that span the width of the vehicle body, such that it resembles a toast rack.

     There are an Atlantic locomotive of free-lance design and six toast-rack coaches.

4. (UK, computing, slang) The ZX Spectrum 128k+ home computer, having a large heat sink built into the keyboard, shaped like a toast rack.

     Visually very similar to the Spectrum+ […] this 128K RAM computer was distinguishable from its immediate predecessor by a black metal heat sink down the right hand side (now often affectionately referred to as the 'toast rack') which dissipated the extra heat generated by all the new memory chips.

     The ZX Spectrum 128 resembled the Sinclair Spectrum + except for red lettering and a large heat sink on the right-hand side. The heat exchanger was needed because the new chips and architecture produced more heat than the case could cope with dissipating and led to the system's nickname of 'The Toast Rack'.
