Trevor Johnson (born in Salford) is a Manchester-based graphic designer. He started his career as a commercial illustrator and went on to become a freelance graphic designer, designing record sleeves and branding for Factory Records and Hacienda Nightclub Fac 51 which was instrumental in the creation of the Madchester music scene of the late 1980s and early 1990s. His designs created as Trevor Johnson and with his partner business Johnson/Panas for factory records are documented in the Factory Records Catalogue of sleeves and merchandise and company promotional material. Trevor designed for many Manchester recording artists including Stockholm Monsters, Simply Red, A Certain Ratio, Durutti Column, Electronic, Kalima, Revenge, Biting Tongues, 808 State and Swing Out Sister. Johnson has continued to live and work in Manchester where in addition to his Factory Records music design, he has created the Brand or creative design for marketing and advertising campaigns for many northern organisations including; Manchester Airport, Bridgewater Hall, Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, Manchester United F.C., Urbis, Manchester City Council, Urban Splash, Greater Manchester Police and Manchester Metropolitan University. Trevor has contributed to local education courses in design at University of Salford and Manchester Metropolitan University and has lectured throughout the UK in Typography, Communication Design and Brand Identities. Recently he consulted on the Michael Winterbottom film 24 Hour Party People about Factory Records and Tony Wilson and has a cameo appearance. Trevor Johnson is an appointed a member of the City of Manchester’s Creative Panel and Creative Director of Manchester Design company Creative Lynx.
