     Through comparison with the remnants of mud walls on the foundations of the large early Shang palace found in Erhlitou, Yenshih County,⁴ Honan Province, it may be assumed that between the main wooden columns there were smaller wooden posts set close together with weeds and ropes thrust between them, and straw-reinforced mud plastered on top to form "mud walls reinforced with timber rods."
