-ista
Words formed using this suffix usually have more of a pejorative connotation than related words formed using -ist. Historically, this connotation tended to be associated with socialism (in reference to Sandinistas), but may also connote a general connection to Latin America or apolitical pejorativeness.
From Ancient Greek -ῐστής (-ĭstḗs), from the stems of verbs in -ῐ́ζω (-ĭ́zō) + the masculine agent noun suffix -τής (-tḗs).
-ista m or f (genitive -istae); first declension
The suffix -ista is added to a noun base to form a noun. It is seldom formative in Latin, usually being borrowed as part of an Ancient Greek word to which the suffix -ιστής (-istḗs) was added.
First-declension noun.
