From 中期英語 tumben, tomben, from 古期英語 tumbian (“to tumble, leap, dance”), from Proto-Germanic *tūmōną (“to turn round”). Cognate with Middle High German tumen (“to turn round”), Icelandic tumba (“to tumble”). See tumble.
