From 中期英語 flemmysshe, from 古期英語 flēmisc, from Old Frisian flāmisk, derived from Proto-Germanic *flaumaz (“flowing, current water”) and *-iskaz. Equivalent to English fleam +‎ -ish. More at Flanders.
