culina

語源

Altered in an unexplained way from coquīna (kitchen), from coquō (to cook). Ernout and Meillet suggest contamination from lus (arse), as latrines, used for expelling waste from the anus, were often situated near kitchens. According to another interpretation, resulting by cluster simplification of a pre-form *kokʷlīna, from suffixed *kokʷ-elna, from the same verbal root that gave coquō. In either case, from Proto-Italic *ekʷō (to cook).
