From Spanish fonda, from Arabic فُنْدُق (funduq, “inn, hotel; manor”), from Ancient Greek πανδοκεῖον (pandokeîon), from πᾰν- (păn-, “all, every”) + the combining form of δέχεσθαι (dékhesthai, “to receive”) + -εῖον (-eîon, “-ium: forming building names”). Doublet of fonduk and fondaco.
