Cognate with Dutch goot (“a gutter, drain, gully”), German Gosse (“a gutter”). Related to 古期英語 gutt (“gut, entrails”), 古期英語 ġēotan (“to pour, pour forth, shed, gush, flow, flood, overwhelm, found, cast”). More at gut, yote.
