From 中期英語 ingot (“mould for casting metal”), of uncertain origin. In all likelihood the same word as Middle French lingot, but the direction of borrowing is hard to establish, particularly as the word appears simultaneously (ca. 1390) in both languages.
ingot (plural ingots)
ingot (third-person singular simple present ingots, present participle ingoting, simple past and past participle ingoted)

An ingot is a material, usually metal, that is cast into a shape suitable for further processing. Non-metallic and semiconductor materials prepared in bulk form may also be referred to as ingots, particularly when cast by mold based methods.
