-
In view of the fact that a number of paradigm shifts are required to bring about the authors' vision of sustainable automobility - paradigm shifts in the way cars are made, sold, used and powered - this approach appears inadequate.

2011, Cameron Clifford, Farms, Flatlanders, and Fords: A Story of People and Place in Rural Vermont 1890-2010:
-
The biggest impediment to universal automobile use in North Pomfret and rural Vermont was the roads. Early cars adapted well to dry, summertime excursions on roads built for foot and animals. Springtime was another matter, however. One of the earliest tangible benefits of automobility was the development of milk trucks before the 1930s. Milk trucks drove into rural neighborhoods to pick up the farmer’s milk cans and brought them to the creamery. This worked well during fair-weather months. […] [some decades later] While farms went out of business and newcomers came, North Pomfret’s natives began taking advantage of new opportunities made available by the expanding effects of automobility. Automobiles became a feature of daily life after World War II as neighborhood roads were finally improved and maintained year-round exclusively for cars and trucks. For the first time, residents could live within North Pomfret and conveniently commute to non-farm jobs outside of the neighborhood.

-
eMobility is not only an alternative drive technology that can be substituted for the combustion engine that has dominated until now, it could revolutionize transport altogether because it differs decisively from conventional automobility.
