1. To engrave incorrectly.
   • 1869, W. Hylton Dyer Longstaffe, “On the Distinctions Between the Silver Coins of Henry IV., V., and VI.”, in The Numismatic Chronicle, and Journal of the Numismatic Society, volume 9, page 271:

     The star is also misengraved or tampered with, appearing in Rud., Sup. ii. 13, 12 1 regular fleur-de-lis.

   • 1879, Samuel Smiles, Robert Dick: Baker, of Thurso, Geologist and Botanist, page 130:

     Not only was the theory incorrect, but the fossil was misengraved, having received additions which were not warranted, and illustrated by sections which in his opinion were impossible.

   • 1888, “Reviews and Notices: Annuaire de la Société des Touristes du Dauphiné. No. 12, 1886”, in The Alpine Journal, volume 13, page 493:

     Speaking from our own experience, we should say that, while the triangulation is perfect, the heights are not unfrequently misengraved, and the topography is here and there very imperfect; but it marks a vast advance on the maps of Bourcet and Cassini.

   • 1996, Numismatic Digest - Volume 18, page 259:
