人から人へ空気を介して拡がるある特定の細菌によって引き起こされる疾患。結核では身体の多くの部分が侵されうるが、肺が最も高頻度に障害される。何年も結核症状が現れないこともあるが、糖尿病、aids、がんのような深刻な疾患になることで症状が発現する可能性がある。結核は通常、抗生物質による治療で治癒する。「tb」とも呼ばれる。
