By surface analysis, com- + miniscor. The precise etymology is uncertain, although it probably derives from the affixation of com- +‎ to a term derived from the addition of the inchoative suffix -sco to a term derived from Proto-Indo-European *mn̥yétor. Ultimately from the root *men- (“to think”).
