Adambakkam (Tamil: ஆதம்பாக்கம்) is a suburb of Chennai, a city situated on the east coast of the southern India. It is a thickly populated suburb flanking the railway line, close to the St. Thomas Mount Railway Station, Chennai. Adambakkam is surrounded by suburbs such as Alandur, Palavanthangal, Nanganallur, Vanumpet, Puzhuthivakkam, Velachery and Guindy. The residents mostly belong to the middle and upper middle classes. Unlike many other suburbs in Chennai, this place has more individual houses rather than apartments and so it makes an ideal residential place. In the past few years there had been acute water problems which was historically very rare to this locality. Mainly because this area had been a lake area and so it was never short of ground water and yearly rainfall was catering to the water needs to the residents. This is one of the localities in Chennai which has come up without much planning contribution from Municipality for a long time. Lately this place has been blessed with underground drainage and relayed roads.One part of adambakkam comes under corporation while other under alandur municipality.It is one of the best residential area to live in.It is recently surveyed that most of the residents here have own cars.Adambakkam is ideally suited for middle classes and upper middle classes.It has all the transport facility, airport is nearby adambakkam. It has two railway stations nearby and many bus services makes the suburb a great place to live in.
