「prey」は、主に自然界における捕食者と被捕食者の関係を表すのに使われる単語である。動物が他の動物を食べるために狩る対象を指す。また、比喩的には、他人に利用されやすい人や、詐欺などの犯罪のターゲットを指すこともある。
「fall prey to」(~の犠牲になる)、「bird of prey」(猛禽類)、「prey on」(~を狩る、~を食べる)などがある。
