a protein found in skin and eye cells that make melanin (a pigment that gives color to the skin and helps protect it from damage by ultraviolet light). people with certain changes in the gene for melanotropin receptor have a higher risk of developing melanoma (skin cancer that begins in melanocytes). also called melanocortin 1 receptor and mc1r.

メラニン（皮膚の色を作り出している色素で、紫外線による損傷から皮膚を保護している）を作る皮膚および眼の細胞の中に存在する蛋白。メラノトロピン受容体の遺伝子に特定の変化がみられる人々では、黒色腫（メラニン形成細胞から発生する皮膚がん）の発生リスクが高くなる。「melanocortin 1 receptor（メラノコルチン1受容体）」、「mc1r」とも呼ばれる。
