blacklist (plural blacklists)
Some speakers prescribe that the words blacklist and whitelist should be replaced with synonyms: they favor blocklist or denylist instead of blacklist, and allowlist instead of whitelist, with a goal of reducing the degree to which natural language reinforces subconscious archetypes whereby blackness equals badness and whiteness equals goodness, which might reinforce racial and ethnic biases. The same effort is made with other terms such as black mark. However, these prescriptions are widely ignored, and the darkness/lightness theme in cognition inevitably persists as a night-and-day archetype regardless of skin color.
