desidero

語源
From de- + *sīder-, a morpheme perhaps related to sīdus (“star; constellation”) (compare cōnsīderō). Perhaps like "wish upon a shooting star."
発音
- (Classical Latin) IPA: [deːˈsiː.dɛ.roː]
- (modern Italianate Ecclesiastical) IPA: [deˈs̬iː.de.ro]
動詞
dēsīderō (present infinitive dēsīderāre, perfect active dēsīderāvī, supine dēsīderātum); first conjugation
- to want, desire, wish for, long for
-
63 BCE, Cicero, In Catilinam orationes 1.10:
-
Nimium diū tē imperātōrem tua illa Mānliāna castra dēsīderant.
-
For too long now that “Manlian” camp of yours has been longing for you as its leader.
(The plural desiderant agrees with the plural subject castra, understood here as singular. Cicero is using the dramatic device of personification to taunt Catiline, whose supporter Gaius Manlius commanded a rebel camp at Faesulae in Etruria.)
-
For too long now that “Manlian” camp of yours has been longing for you as its leader.
-
Nimium diū tē imperātōrem tua illa Mānliāna castra dēsīderant.
-
- to miss, lack, need
-
c. early 1st-century BCE, CIL 6.16606:
-
Mater mea mihi | monumentum | coeravit quae | me desiderat vehementer me
- My mother built this monument for me, whom she misses terribly
-
Mater mea mihi | monumentum | coeravit quae | me desiderat vehementer me
-
- to lose
- (passive voice) to be lost, to be missing
