The term Taiwanese in more commonly used in English. However, the authorities in Taiwan have officially prescribed the use of the term. The authorities in mainland China, on the other hand, proscribe the use of the term, attributing it to part of the Taiwanese desinicization movement. The same is true for anti-independence politicians and personalities in Taiwan.
