Borrowed from Japanese コンビニ (konbini), which is a clipping of コンビニエンスストア (konbiniensu sutoa), which is from English convenience store. If English had a clipping of convenience store as *conveny (/kənˈviːni/), it would be analogous (i.e., morphologically and phonologically parallel) with konbini.
