"Stroke"は脳卒中全般を指す一般的な表現である。脳の血流が一時的に遮断される「一過性脳虚血発作(TIA)」から、脳の血管が詰まる「脳梗塞」、脳の血管が破れる「脳出血」まで、脳に関する血管の異常を広くカバーする。
