1. (idiomatic, transitive) Of a horse or other animal, to rear up on its hind legs in order to throw off or dislodge its rider.
   • 1909, Harry Vernon Woon, Twenty-Five Years' Soldiering in South Africa, A Personal Narrative, page 30:

     The paymaster and quartermaster were the only two officers left on the parade-ground to inspect us and see us off; the former made a remark about my dusty appearance, and on Sergeant Morris telling him I had been bucked off, he said I had no business to be sent up if I couldn't ride.

   • 1913, Frederic Brewster Loomis, Hunting Extinct Animals in the Patagonian Pampas, page 113:
