In logic, entailment is a relation between a set of sentences (meaningfully declarative sentences or truthbearers) and a sentence; if Γ is a set of one or more sentences and S1 is the conjunction of the elements of Γ and S2 is a sentence then Γ entails S2 (and S2 is called the logical consequent of Γ and S1 is said to logically imply S2 ) if and only if S1 and not-S2 are logically inconsistent.
