From Vocaloid, from Japanese VOCALOID(ボーカロイド) (bōkaroido), from English vocal + -oid.

vocaloid (countable and uncountable, plural vocaloids)

1. (countable) An artificial singer (voicebank and corresponding avatar) based on the Vocaloid engine.

   Vocaloid producers often own multiple vocaloids and will use them together in a single song.

   1. (genericized trademark, sometimes proscribed) Any such artificial singer based on other singing voice synthesis software.

      Kasane Teto is my favourite vocaloid!

2. (uncountable) Ellipsis of vocaloid music (music produced using singing voice synthesis).

   I love listening to vocaloid.

3. (countable, genericized trademark, sometimes proscribed) A voice synthesis software voicebank, regardless of musicality and presentation.

   It was too expensive to hire voice actors for every employee training video, so now we use a vocaloid for the voiceover instead.
