語源

From Proto-West Germanic *felu.

Cognate with Old Frisian felo, Old Saxon filu, Old High German filu, Old Norse fjǫl- in compounds, Gothic 𐍆𐌹𐌻𐌿 (filu). The Indo-European root is also the source of Ancient Greek πολύς (polús), Latin plus, Old Irish il (Welsh lliaws).

使用する際の注意点

In a handful of late texts, namely the Peterborough Chronicle and works by Ælfric, fela was optionally used as an indeclinable adjective, with the noun it was modifying in whichever case was appropriate in context: æfter fela ġēarum ("after many years", with the noun in the dative). In all other texts, the partitive genitive construction was mandatory: æfter fela ġēara.
