From 中期英語 folwer, folwere, folewer, from 古期英語 folgere (“follower; attendant; disciple”), equivalent to follow +‎ -er. Cognate with Saterland Frisian Foulger, West Frisian folger, Dutch volger, German Folger, Swedish följare.
