After the war, President Chiang Kai-shek dubbed the 9th Division stationed there the "Dadǎn Troop"—"Courageous Troop," for their valiant performance, and renamed the island Dadǎn Island—"Courage Island"—to commemorate their feat. Other islands, such as Erdan Island, Sandan Island, and etc. were not renamed, but also became "Erdǎn Island" and "Sandǎn Island" in the written form.
