From 中期英語 manhode, also manhede (> obsolete English manhead), equivalent to man +‎ -hood. Cognate with Middle Dutch manheit (“manhood”), Middle Low German manheit (whence German Low German Mannheit (“manhood”)), German Mannheit (“manhood”).
