Uncertain. Originally Scottish; probably onomatopoeic, but compare 中期英語 thakken, from 古期英語 þaccian (whence Modern thwack by conflation with whack). Sense 6 of the verb is likely a semantic loan from Malay hentam (“to strike; to do something carelessly”).
whack (plural whacks)
whack (third-person singular simple present whacks, present participle whacking, simple past and past participle whacked)
whack (comparative whacker, superlative whackest)
