原則として，各発明について1の図のみをIPO公報に表示することができる。発明の内容又はその具体的な改良点を説明するのに最も適した図面の部分を選択することが望ましく，IPO公報に明確に言及した図を思慮深く作成することにより最終的結果も良いものになる。ただし，これは，同時に，明細書において言及される図の1としても機能するものでなければならない。この目的のため，図は，製図者の判断により，平面図，正面図，断面図又は斜視図にする。図の各部は，特に縁取りをせず，かつ，区別することができるものにし，陰影はなるべく又は全く使用せず，主張する発明のみを例示するものであって，他の一切の要素を除外するものとする。適切に作成された場合は，省略又は変更なく用いるが，過度の微細さ，詰まり過ぎ又は細部の不要な精緻さを伴う場合は，IPO公報から除かれる。 - 特許庁
