royal we (plural royal we's or (rare) royal wes)

1. The first-person plural pronoun as traditionally used in formal speech by any royal personage to refer to themselves, most especially a sovereign in their role as the monarch.

   Hyponyms: majestic plural, plural of majesty, imperial we (all broadly synonymous)

   Queen Victoria is the monarch most commonly associated with the use of the royal we, as in "We are not amused."

It is a mock royal we that goes over the top with its tone to make a serious point.
