Cognate with Scots team, teem (“a chain, harness”), West Frisian team (“bridle, team”), Dutch toom (“bridle, reins, flock of birds”), German Zaum (“bridle”), Norwegian tømme (“bridle, rein”), Swedish töm (“leash, rein”).
