Cognate with Dutch hen (“hen”), West Frisian hin (“hen”), German Low German Heen (“hen”), German Henne (“hen”), Icelandic hæna (“hen”), Danish høne (“hen”), Swedish höna (“hen”). Related also to 古期英語 hana (“cock, rooster”).
