From Middle English thrum, throm (> Anglo-French trome), from 古期英語 *þrum (found in tungeþrum (“ligament of the tongue”)) from Proto-Germanic *þrumą. Cognate with German Trumm and Old Norse thrǫmr (“edge, brim”).
