At this point, by default, a restore rolls back any incomplete transactions (the undo phase), which completes the recovery of the database and makes it available to users.

原義は「再び元気にする」。一般的な用法では主に、「(社会)秩序、能力(機能)などを回復する」、「建物、絵画、彫刻などを復元する(修復する)」という意味で使う。「細かな方法により、失われた状態を元の状態に回復する、復元する」ことを含意する。科学技術論文では、「装置の稼動の際、一時的に失われた機能を回復する」、「実験の過程で失われた情報などを(細かな方法により)復元する」というように使う。
