It may be common knowledge, but 99.7% of companies in Japan are SMEs, and 42 million people work for SMEs. SMEs are rather agile, flexible and extremely precious. As I may have mentioned previously, in my hometown Kitakyushu City, which is a city dominated by SMEs, I have been told by businesspeople that their companies have actually managed to survive due to the establishment of the Act.
