1)流れるように,あるいは流れる様子.CRTディスプレイの文字の流れのこと.
例えば,ディスプレイ画面に納まらない文字列を表示するとき,始め,画面の上から順次表示され,それが画面の一番下に来ても順次表示し,画面の上のところの文字列が上に送られ,表示されなくなる.このような文字列の流れをロールといい,ディスプレイの場合には特にスクロールという.
2)紙テープを巻いたもの,またはロール紙のこと.あるいはこの巻いたものを取り付けるための器具で,スプールあるいはリールのことを表す.このように,ぐるぐる巻きにしたものを一般にロールという.
3)データの流れという意味から転送あるいはコピーの意味で使われることがある.
